Macoupin County Enquirer (Wednesday, 25 April 1934, page 5):

W. H. Rhodes, aged 78, died Wednesday at 3 p. m. at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Chris Reiher in Alton. The deceased suffered a paralytic stroke several months ago but had apparently recovered. Along about the middle of March Mr. Rhodes visited Carlinville and was apparently in good health.

He was a son of George and Elizabeth (Sims) Rhodes and a lifelong resident of Polk township, residing near Macoupin. For several years he lived alone and rented his land.

Other surviving children are Geo. C. of Carlinville and Joseph of Wood River; one brother, Frank, and one sister, Flora, both of Macoupin. His wife died about 14 years ago.

The body was removed to the Riefenberg funeral home where services will be held Sunday at an hour to be announced later.
